Scoring & Judging

Scoring basics

Our dynamic scoring system has been structured to ensure that the majority of teams will remain in contention through the competition. There are no eliminations.

Each of the 17 teams earn points by submitting 30-60 second video recording of their challenges. The videos are uploaded to our judges' site each evening for review. To ensure that videography experience will not be a competitive factor, there will be no video editing or use of special effects permitted.

Choosing your challenges

The point values of challenges vary depending upon how far they are from the central train station. As shown on the sample day, you can combine the challenges in whatever way best suits your interests and tactics.

How your videos are judged

All of our judges have backgrounds in the travel industry. The judges will review each of the videos, comparing the teams that submit videos from the same challenges. They will consider how accurate and thorough the team presents the substance of the information that the challenge required. They will also consider how interesting, creative and bursting-with-personality your on-camera narrative, is presented.

Once all of the videos have been reviewed, the judges separate them into two groups. The highest scoring groups will receive maximum points for the challenge, while the lowest scoring group receive minimum points. Standings are updated and announced every morning.

There are a few rules to how the videos are judged:

  • For each challenge, BOTH players must have a visual or audio presence on the video, and the video should have multiple camera angles, to confirm that team is actually at challenge site.
  • There will be NO appeals for technical malfunctions of video cameras, computers, PDAs, cables, internet café connections, wireless connections, or access to the company's website.
  • There will be NO appeals for the judges’ subjective evaluation of challenge videos.
  • If there are an odd number of teams that choose a challenge, then the team that straddles the top and bottom 50% will receive the AVERAGE of the ‘risk/reward’ points offered for that challenge.
  • In the unlikely event of a tie, COMPETITOURS will enlist a certified public accountant to conduct a drawing on videotape two business days after the conclusion of the trip to determine the final winning team.
